My practice specializes in public safety psychology services. These services encompass pre-employment evaluations, specialty-assignment selection and officer involved shooting and other post-critical incident services, psychological counseling services to personnel and their family, training and teaching at various law enforcement academies, longtime directorship of a behavioral health services unit and CISM team, and management of an internal EAP and chaplaincy program, all within a major law enforcement agency. I have had the privilege of directing teams of psychologists completing public safety evaluations in both agency settings and private practice and have personally conducted approximately 6,500 public safety evaluations.
I have provided psychological services to Arizona fire departments including the cities of Peoria, El Mirage, Surprise and Sedona. Psychological services have been provided to law enforcement agencies including the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the cities of Surprise, Peoria, El Mirage, Youngtown, Glendale, Goodyear, Tolleson, Avondale, Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Sedona, Lake Havasu, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Arizona Department of Corrections.
I am an Arizona POST specialty instructor. I am an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Psychology Services Section, and am the current Educational Chair of this section. I am also a member of the American Jail Association. I am an FBI-trained hostage negotiator and certified in basic and advanced group critical incident stress debriefing, as well as other areas, through the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.
Presentations at national conferences have included rebuilding public safety psychological services units, armed standoffs, suicide by cop incidents, pre-employment evaluations and Tarasoff and Duty to Warn situations.
